Our Story

Jose "Tio Pepe" Jara, was born on April 18, 1954 in Totatiche, Jalisco, Mexico.  Coming from humble beginnings, he ventured out to see what else the world had to offer him.  He eventually settled in Chicago, Illinois, where he met his wife and started a family.      

After working in a Chicago steel mill factory for 19 years, Jose decided to realize his dream of owning his own business, specifically a restaurant.  Motivated by the delicious food he had grown up with and the culinary skills of his wife, he knew he could make this dream a reality. 

Jose and his family made the move to St. Charles, Missouri.  With the help of his wife, four young children, and many additional family members, he finally achieved his goal.  El Tio Pepe opened its doors on January 10, 1992. 

Everyday he looked forward to going to work, always greeting everyone with a smile.  He loved getting to know customers, watching families grow and friendships evolve. People shared their time together at his restaurant, having great conversations and good times, while enjoying every bite.  

El Tio Pepe has been in business for over 20 years, serving good quality food, cold beer, and the best Margaritas in town, along with that same family friendly service.    

We lost Jose "Tio Pepe" in May of 2007,  but his legend continues on with the restaurant's running success. El Tio Pepe is still owned and operated by his wife and loving children, who are happy to continue his dream. 

And who knows what the future will bring...
